Let's be honest, setting up new classroom technology can feel overwhelming. You're juggling lesson plans, grading papers, and somehow finding time to learn another new platform. But here's the thing: setting up your classroom with Boom Cards is actually pretty straightforward, and once you see those student progress reports in action, you'll wonder how you ever taught without them! Additionally, if you find yourself having a hard time, we have real humans who answer the phones!

We've helped thousands of teachers make this transition, and we're here to walk you through every step. Grab your coffee (or tea, we don't judge), and let's get your digital classroom up and running.

Why Your Future Self Will Thank You for This Setup

Our amazing student progress and performance reports make setting up your classroom with Boom Cards worth every minute. But to unlock this superpower, you need to create a classroom and set up student accounts first.

Instead of wondering who's struggling with fractions or which students have mastered sight words, you'll actually know. The data flows in automatically while students play and learn. No more guessing games during parent conferences or scrambling to figure out who needs extra support.

Your First Steps (Don't Worry, We've Got You!)

If you haven't created your Boom Learning account yet, head over to our website and sign up. You can start with our free version to test the waters, or jump straight into a premium subscription for all the bells and whistles. Either way works perfectly!

Once you're logged in, look for the "Classes" tab. This becomes your mission control center for everything classroom-related. Think of it as your digital teacher desk where everything important lives.

Creating Your First Boom Classroom (It's Easier Than You Think!)

Ready for the fun part? Click that "New Classroom" button in your Classes tab. Boom! You've just created your first "Sign in with Boom" classroom. We automatically give it a friendly name, but you can totally customize it.

See that bold text above the blue information box? Click on it and make it yours. Maybe "Mrs. Johnson's Reading Rockstars" or "Mr. Smith's Math Wizards", whatever fits your teaching style and makes you smile.

Every classroom gets its own unique username and password combo. You can click on either one to change them to something memorable. Pro tip: avoid "password123", you're more creative than that! Just remember, usernames need to be unique across our entire system, so if yours doesn't save, someone beat you to it.

Privacy Settings That Actually Make Sense

Privacy matters in education, so we've made new classrooms locked and private by default. Here's what that means for you and your students

"Locked" means students can't create random accounts or change their nicknames to something inappropriate. They can still pick fun avatars and update their passwords, but you stay in control of the important stuff.

"Private" keeps your student roster confidential. When students log out, they won't see other students' names and avatars floating around. Perfect for maintaining that professional classroom environment while keeping things fun.

Getting Your Students Into Boom

Time to populate your classroom! You have options here, and honestly, they're all pretty painless.

For smaller classes or when you're adding just a few new students, use the "New Student" button. It's like adding one contact at a time to your phone, simple and straightforward.

But if you've got a full roster to add, click "Add Many Students" instead. A handy pop-up appears where you can list everyone at once. Copy and paste from your gradebook, type them out, whatever works. Hit "Add Students" when you're done, and voila, instant digital classroom!

The students you create this way will log in using the usernames and passwords you set up. You're the master of your domain here.

The Magic of Importing

Already using Google Classroom, Microsoft, Clever, or ClassLink? We've got your back! Why recreate what you've already built when you can import your existing classes?

Look for the "Import from" section during setup and click your platform's button. We've created specific guides for each one because we know every system has its quirks. Google users get Google-specific instructions, Microsoft users get Microsoft help, you get the idea.

This feature is honestly one of our favorites because it saves you so much time. Time you can spend on actual teaching instead of data entry!

Student, Managed Classrooms

Here's a neat option you can create classrooms that students join themselves. This works amazingly well with older students who can handle a bit more responsibility.

Share your unique classroom code, and let them do the rest. Post it on your class website, write it on the board, or send it through your usual communication channels. Students use the code to join independently.

URLs, Links, and Keeping Everything Connected

Every classroom gets its own special URL, think of it as your classroom's home address on the internet. When you change your username or password, this address updates automatically.

Keep track of these changes and share updated links with students when needed. There's nothing more frustrating than a student trying to access yesterday's link when you've already updated everything!

Staying Organized

If you teach multiple subjects or have several class periods, create a naming system that makes sense to you. "Period 1 Math," "5th Grade Science," "Advanced Reading", whatever helps you navigate quickly between classes.

Set up your roster with information that actually helps you identify students. Real names work great, but if your school uses ID numbers or other systems, go with what makes your life easier.

When Things Don't Go According to Plan (It Happens!)

Sometimes students forget their usernames or passwords, shocking, we know! Create simple reference sheets with screenshots of your specific setup. Laminate them, post them on your classroom website, whatever works for your teaching style.

If a username won't save, it means someone else claimed it first. Try adding your school name, room number, or the year to make it unique. Keep notes on your final choices so you don't forget them later.

Making It Work in Real Life

Start small! Create one classroom first and get comfortable with how everything works. Once you and your students feel confident, expand to other subjects or classes. There's no rush, we'll be here when you're ready.

Set clear expectations about digital citizenship from day one. Talk about appropriate usernames, keeping passwords private, and being respectful online. These conversations create the foundation for positive digital learning experiences.

Setting Up Your Teacher Profile and Essential Tools

Before you start assigning activities, let's get your teacher profile configured properly. Your profile helps personalize the experience and ensures you get the most out of our platform features. Here is a quick video with everything you need to know:

Once your profile is ready, you'll want to master two game-changing tools that make classroom management a breeze: Fast Pin and Hyperplay.

Fast Pin is your secret weapon for quick, no-login-required activities.

Perfect for whole-class lessons or when you need students to jump into an activity immediately. Students simply enter the pin code you provide - no usernames or passwords needed.

Hyperplay takes things up a notch by letting you control the pace of activities from your teacher dashboard. You can advance everyone to the next question together, pause for discussion, or help struggling students catch up.
